Our Veteran participants spend a day at the lake

Last month, MHAOK’s Veteran Peer Recovery Support Specialist (VPRSS) organized a day of relaxation for our veteran participants: a day at the lake.

Our VPRSS has walked in the same shoes as the veterans we serve, and because of his shared experiences, he truly empathizes with this vulnerable population. His background enables him to build trusting relationships and create an open, welcoming and inclusive space for veterans who may be experiencing homelessness or mental illness to feel accepted and cared for. The wraparound services offered through our Veterans program (housed at Lottie House Peer-Run Drop-In Center) include practical services such as assistance with accessing benefits, vital documents, housing and health care, but, understanding the importance of social connection, it also includes opportunities to cultivate community. With that, we are honored to share some highlights from the first Veterans’ Services Fishing Day of 2023.

Veterans Services is funded in part by Boeing and Tinker Federal Credit Union Foundation.
