Street Medicine provides a critical service to those experiencing homelessness

We met Shay Swindall in early spring, tucked away in an encampment. She was among several Oklahomans experiencing homelessness who were provided care by our Street Medicine team that chilly April morning, and she, like the others, was relieved to have the help.

MHAOK operates the only two street medicine teams in the state, and the program is critical to the health of our community members who live in encampments, under bridges and other places not fit for human habitation. For more on what a day in the life of the teams is like, read the most recent story featured in Oklahoma Watch.

MHAOK’s Street Medicine teams are funded in part by Ascension St. John, Telligen Community Initiative and Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
