Tenant Education
LiveSteady is a free, seven-lesson tenant education program designed to support renters through every stage of the housing journey. From the housing search and move-in process to maintaining a successful tenancy, LiveSteady equips participants with essential knowledge and skills, including:
- Understanding leases and tenant rights
- Managing finances and budgeting for housing expenses
- Communicating effectively with landlords and neighbors
- Basic home maintenance and responsibilities
LiveSteady is available at no cost to nonprofit partners and schools across the Oklahoma City metro area.
Mediation Services
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process where a trained, neutral mediator helps landlords and tenants resolve disputes collaboratively—often avoiding the need for court intervention.
Shelterwell provides two types of mediation services in Oklahoma County:
Court-Based Mediation
Shelterwell mediators are present at eviction dockets in Oklahoma County, with cases being assigned for mediation at the discretion of the presiding judge. These on-site services help landlords and tenants explore mutually beneficial solutions before final court decisions are made.
Pre-Filing Mediation
Pre-filing mediation helps resolve disputes before an eviction case is filed. This service is available to landlords, tenants, or housing stability service providers working with a household in Oklahoma County. Participation is free, but both parties must agree to take part.
Common issues addressed through pre-filing mediation include:
- Late or unpaid rent
- Lease violations
- Communication breakdowns
- Repairs and maintenance disputes
