Whenever I’m browsing through Netflix, I always end up seeing the same recommendations to watch episodes of “How I Met Your Mother” and action flicks I watched five years ago. Sometimes, though, Netflix really comes through with films and shows I would have never seen otherwise. Here are 5 mental health documentaries, series and films I know you will enjoy.

1. Don’t Call Me Crazy
This is a series that follows teens in treatment as they work to reclaim their lives in the face of eating disorders, suicidal depression and other mental health issues.

2. One Day at a Time
Netflix’s remake of “One Day at a Time” shines an important light on depression and post-traumatic stress.

3. Time Out of Mind
Richard Gere plays a man experiencing mental illness and homelessness who is struggling to survive in New York and reconnect with his estranged daughter.

4.  On Meditation
Notable personalities like David Lynch and Russell Simmons share their insights into the deeply personal practice of meditation.

5. 13 Reasons Why — Beyond the Reasons
The cast and producers of the controversial “13 Reasons Why” join mental health professionals to discuss scenes dealing with difficult issues, including bullying, depression and sexual assault.
